Facilities across the CCMS give great opportunities for students to gain real practical and commercial experience. Our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is at the centre of our students' learning experience. This innovative and exciting library has been designed to reflect a modern working environment, with laptops and relevant books collection available for our students.
The LRC has been designed to provide students with a high-quality learning environment, including excellent library and ICT facilities. A range of e-learning resources are offered by our partner institutions who provide us with a range of qualification.

Learning Resource centre

Our LRC resources include a collection of books relevant to the courses we offer: Skilled and friendly staff who work with you to help you find and use the information you need. Modern study spaces with PCs and Wi-Fi access. Daily and weekly newspapers and subscriptions to specialist magazines. Access to web-based research sites and databases. Photocopying facilities to help students present work in a professional way. Researching skills sessions with LRC staff to help you get the best out of your studies.

Progression

The Certificate in ESOL International (CEFR B1, B2, C1, and C2) has been carefully designed to accommodate the diverse backgrounds, educational experiences, and career objectives of its candidates. As such, the opportunities for progression following the achievement of this qualification are varied and flexible, tailored to individual aspirations and goals.

Depending on the level of the certificate attained, candidates may consider progressing to:

  • A more advanced ESOL International qualification, building further on their language skills,
  • Key Skills or Functional Skills qualifications, which develop essential competencies needed for education and employment,
  • Vocational qualifications, which provide specialised training and knowledge relevant to specific career paths,
  • Access to Higher Education courses, offering a pathway into university studies for those seeking academic advancement.

This flexibility ensures that learners can choose the progression route best suited to their personal, educational, and professional development needs.

Qualification Overview

Candidates undertaking the ESOL International Certificate at CEFR levels B1, B2, C1, and C2 are evaluated across all four key language skills, which are essential for effective communication. These components include:

  • Reading: Understanding and interpreting written texts of varying lengths and complexity,
  • Listening: Comprehending spoken English in different contexts and formats,
  • Writing: Producing clear, coherent, and well-structured written responses on a range of topics,
  • Speaking: Demonstrating the ability to communicate fluently and accurately in spoken English through discussions, presentations, and everyday conversations.

The total guided learning hours for completing this qualification amount to approximately 256 hours, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the assessment and the level of language proficiency required.

Assessment

The ESOL International qualification at CEFR levels B1, B2, C1, and C2 has a total assessment duration of approximately 2 hours and 46 minutes. The main examination, which includes the reading, listening, and writing components, is conducted in a single continuous session lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes, typically held on the same day. The speaking assessments are arranged separately and take place within a window of one to three days either before or after the main examination session, allowing flexibility in scheduling.
